Children 16 years old and younger are invited to come out to Lake Walton with their fishing poles, bait, and tackle boxes to take part in the 33rd Annual Georgetown Kid's Fishing Derby from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

This derby has become an eagerly anticipated annual event for youth in the foothills. The fishing competition starts at 8:00 AM with prizes awarded at 11:30 AM for the Casting Contest, Strangest Fish Caught, Fish Trivia, Shortest Fish Caught, Longest Fish Caught, and First Fish. There will be four age categories for awards: 0-4 years, 5-8 years, 9-12 years, and 13-16 years old.

Georgetown Divide Rotary will BBQ hot dogs and have cold drinks available for participants. In addition to free fishing, the day will feature arts and crafts, raffle prizes, and other activities for the entire family.

This event is co-sponsored by the Georgetown Rotary Club, California Department of Fish & Wildlife, El Dorado County Fish and Game Commission, Royal Septic, and Georgetown Divide Public Utilities District, with assistance from the California Conservation Corps.

Look for signs directing participants to the event site. Parking is limited so please try to carpool. Lake Walton is located approximately 4.5 miles east of Georgetown on Balderston Road, off Wentworth Springs Road. We ask for your cooperation in only parking on the east side of Balderston Road to allow for emergency vehicle access. There is no camping on-site; Dru Barner Campground is the closest Forest Service campground to the event.
